Who we are: C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation enriches the lives of children with special needs, supports their families, and strengthens communities through fishing events. The Take a Warrior Fishing program was designed in 2011 with events to support military personnel and their families
Children with special needs (ages 6-18) and their caretakers come together with community volunteers for a fun day of fishing they may not otherwise experience. These events provide a refreshing break from their daily challenges. Spreading a positive message that kids with disabilities can accomplish anything, we include all children, despite their limitations. This is all made possible through national and local sponsors-people who want to make a big difference in the lives of kids with special needs thus strengthening their community.
The Take a Warrior Fishing program was designed in 2011 with events to support military personnel and their families, specifically targeting persons assigned to Warrior Transition Commands, by creating an adaptive, community-based outdoor recreation experience through the sport of fishing. Numerous studies have shown that traumatic events not only affect the psychological structures of the self, but also the attachment and meaning that link individuals and community. This program seeks to restore those disconnects. Each event will have the capacity to accommodate up to 150 families and brings in numerous community partners.
In 1996 due to continued requests and overwhelming interest, Fishing Kids was developed to introduce and educate all urban youth to the sport of fishing. The Fishing Kids Program and Events are built around the slogan, “Getting more kids fishing, more often,” and designed to create and provide more fishing opportunities for urban youth.
The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation hosts over 70 events per year in over half of the United States and expands by 8 new events per year and into 2 new states per year on average. The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation aims for presence across the nation allowing children everywhere and of any means an opportunity to learn how to fish.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors and donors who make everything possible!
