On the south end… Great early fall walleye fishing this week. Water temps cooling off, leaves starting to change and walleyes transitioning. Good numbers of walleyes in various areas along south shore with a big school in front of Lighthouse Gap (mouth of Rainy River) in 28′ – 30′. Areas with structure (Long Point, Rocky Point, Knight, Bridges) still holding fish as well. Emerald shiners entering some bays and Rainy River. Anglers having success trolling crankbaits, drifting spinners and crawlers and anchored up and jigging. Some live shiners are available at local resorts and bait shops.

On the Rainy River… Emerald shiners in the river, not a huge run, but it has started. Good reports of nice walleyes in Four Mile Bay and various parts of the river. Most common depth, 14-16′. The fall run has definitely started. Snelled spinners and jigging the go to method. Sturgeon anglers also reporting success in deeper holes.

Up at the NW Angle… Walleye fishing strong up at the Angle. Walleyes being caught in various spots including mud flats in Little Traverse Bay, on flats amongst islands and in funnel areas between islands. A variety of methods catching walleyes including jigging on structure, pulling spinners or cranks over flats. Crappies and perch activity continues to pick up as water cools.
