On the south end… Another week of huge walleyes. The winning team in a tournament this weekend had 5 walleyes for 50 lbs. This late summer pattern is predictable and holding true. Trolling crankbaits and drifting with spinners and crawlers in the main basin both strong methods. Main depths are 30-34′. Rotate sizes, colors, wobbles and trolling speeds with crankbaits until you get the ‘eyes dialed in. Have camera ready and get fish back quick!
On the Rainy River… As most anglers are fishing the lake, there is 42 miles of beautiful, navigable river from the mouth to Birchdale with little traffic. Sturgeon anglers finding fish in deep holes. Reports of some nice walleyes, pike and smallmouth bass being caught up and down the river.
Up at the NW Angle… A strong week of walleye fishing up at the Angle. Fish being targeted in 19 – 28′ of water over mud adjacent to structure. Spinners and crawlers has been the go to with gold, pink and orange hot colors. Perch bite picking up. Muskie anglers showing some big fish. Water temp, 72 degrees.
