JUNE 8, 2012-MINNETONKA, MN-World-class bass fishing and hefty paychecks await when the Cabela’s North American Bass Circuit continues its 2012 season on Wisconsin’s bass-rich Madison Chain.
Set for June 23, the single-day, team-format tournament is open to all anglers regardless of club or sponsor affiliation. Teams will launch from the Green Lantern on fabled Lake Waubesa at 7 a.m., and whoever brings in the heaviest 5-bass basket to the 3 p.m. weigh-in walks away with a $10,000 paycheck, (based on 50-boat field) plus sponsor contingencies and serious bragging rights in the bass community.
Cabela’s NABC payouts are based on the number of teams entered in each event. At last count, the Madison payout was already over $18,000 in cash-including $9,000 cash for first place-not including sponsor bonuses from Cabela’s, Stratos Boats, Ranger Boats, Bomber, Booyah Bait Co., Optima, Oxygenator, Sufix, Trigger X, XCalibur and YUM.
Registration is still open, with an entry fee of $500 per team. Teams may register by mail, fax, or online. Full details and printable registration forms are available at northamericanbasscircuit.com. Or call toll-free (877) 893-7947, or email [email protected] for more information. Anyone interested in joining the fun should keep in mind that registration closes at midnight Sunday June 17. Also, the tournament is only five boats away from the full field mark, which could close registration earlier.
Local families and bass fans of all ages are also invited to join the fun at weigh-in, held at the Green Lantern beginning at 3 p.m, when more than 90 of the Midwest’s best bass anglers bring their baskets to the Cabela’s NABC stage. Weigh-in spectators will be treated to a steady stream of bass, along with exciting stories and valuable fishing tips from the tournament anglers. Plus, the Cabela’s NABC and National Professional Anglers Association will raffle off free fishing tackle to kids ages 12 and under throughout the event.
This is the second stop on the NABC’s 2012 season. The remaining tournaments are August 4 on Gull Lake, Minnesota, out of Cragun’s Resort, and Sept. 8 at Leech Lake, Minnesota, out of Trappers’ Landing Lodge near Walker. Teams fishing two or more of these NABC tournaments compete for berths in the NABC World Bass Championship, set for Oct. 5-6 on Pools 4 and 5 of the Mississippi River. The event offers a $30,000 cash purse plus sponsor bonuses, and carries a $20,000 first-place paycheck plus ultimate bassin’ bragging rights.
