Chapman takes AOY; Howell holds lead

Randy Howell sits one tournament day away from winning his first Bassmaster Elite Series title after bringing 15 pounds, 10 ounces to the scales on Saturday. Howell retained the lead for the second day in a row and positioning himself 2-6 ahead of a hard charging Boyd Duckett.

“It was a crazy day, I’ll tell you,” said Howell. “It was 11:30, and I didn’t have but one fish. I actually caught that one at 11. By 11:30, I knew my fish just weren’t going to bite there today.”
Scott Rook managed to hold third place, 2-9 behind the leader. Terry “Big Show” Scroggins moved into fourth from eighth with 44-8. Jason Quinn jumped from 10th to fifth with 44-4.
Howell had camped on one particular area all week but with the wind kicking up today, he had to move to another area of the lake to make it happen in the afternoon.
“The wind was blowing pretty big waves right down the middle of the lake where I’ve been catching them. I don’t know what it did to them, if the wind pushed them down or what. They just quit feeding,” Howell said.
While Howell holds the lead, the story of the day was Randy’s travel partner and friend Brent Chapman claiming the 2012 Bassmaster Toyota Tundra Angler of the Year title.
