Former Bassmaster Classic and Forrest Wood Cup champion Luke Clausen is sitting on the sidelines for the 2016 Bassmaster Classic taking place on Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He’s not a fan of missing major fishing events, but he did qualify to fish the Bassmaster Elite Series in 2016. So look for him to be a player at the Classic in 2017.

So, who does the Mercury pro think has a decent shot at taking home the big hardware from Tulsa? Well, Clausen shared his opinion with BassFIRST as he was heading out to catch cobia in Florida with another Mercury pro, JT Kenney.

Jacob Powroznik

“Powroznik has to be one of my favorites to take this Classic,” said Clausen. “He has a natural ability. He’s not mechanically better than the other anglers. He’s certainly not in better shape physically. He is just a natural fisherman. Jacob handles pressure well. He won’t get rattled.”

Aaron Martens

“Aaron never gets spun out on the water,” said Clausen. “He’s spun out everywhere else, just never during a tournament. He can handle pressure as good if not better than anyone. Being able to focus on your fishing, etc., with the big crowds that are likely to follow him is a big advantage for Aaron.”

Todd Faircloth

“I think Todd is one of the most overlooked anglers in professional bass fishing,” said Clausen. “He’s won plenty of Bassmaster tournaments and is usually in the running for the Angler of the Year.

“He is a great decision maker. He’s very methodical and can change what he is doing quickly to get on the right pattern or technique. He’s cool, calm and collected.”
