Yamaha pro Mark Davis from Mount Ida, Arkansas is heading out for Day 3 of the Plano Championship Chase Bassmaster Elite event on Lake St. Clair out of Detroit, Michigan with a 1 pound 4 ounce lead and plenty of confidence. Of course, the smallmouth bass need to cooperate with Davis to justify his confident attitude. Davis has not won a tour level event since 2007.

“I’m feeling okay today,” said Davis. “I am pretty confident. Of course, smallmouth bass can just swim away. I have more than one spot though, but my primary area is better than the rest.

“I don’t have a lot of time to fish. I have a total of about 3.5 hours of travel time. It will be a bouncy ride to get out there today, but tomorrow will be rougher. I have not won since 2007. It was an FLW event. I haven’t won with B.A.S.S. since 2004 or 2005. It’s been too long, but I have to make it to tomorrow first.”

Pursuing Mark Davis is Mercury pro Aaron Martens of Leeds, Alabama. It’s a toss-up who will win this event, or if either angler will be fishing the final day. One thing that will be decided today, the 2013 Bassmaster Angler of the Year (AoY). Aaron Martens needs to finish the tournament in 25th place or higher to take home his second AoY.
