He didn’t relinquish his lead, but leader Todd Faircloth will have his hands full as Aaron Martens made it it a game of ounces going into tomorrow’s Championship Sunday where the Top 12 will faceoff.

It’s not often when just about anyone in that Top 12 has a legit chance at winning give or take a bad day by the top leaders. Todd Faircloth jumped into the lead Friday by 12 ounces after Day One leader Kyle Fox slipped and missed the cut. Faircloth’s lead slipped to 7 ounces to one of the game’s most dominant anglers on earth.
“I think I’m in contention to win,” said Faircloth. “I’m in the right areas; I’ve seen some big fish.”
In third place, Terry Butcher left the docks on Day Three in second place behind Faircloth slipped as he finished his day with 46-12. Fourth was Dean Rojas with 45-7, and fifth was rookie Jamie Horton of Centreville, Ala., only 1 ounce behind Rojas.
Faircloth’s game plan was made clear moments after weigh-in; out fish his competitors while leaving nothing on the table. Many thought the Rumble would come down to ounces but with only 5 pounds, 15 ounces separating 12th from Faircloth, anyone could steup up with a rare 6-pounder.
“To beat these guys, everything has to fall exactly in place. Hopefully it’s my turn,” he said. “I’m fishing the way I like,” he said. “I have a game plan for tomorrow, and I feel like I’m around the winning fish.”
Aaron Martens started off the 2012 season very uncharateristically unlike himself. Points being a big deal as we get closer to the end of the regular season, Martens knows that with a strong finish here how much that will play a huge role in moving up the leaderboard and being that much closer to a Classic berth.
He brought in Day Three’s largest bag with 16 pounds, 2 ounces, nearly identical to his Day One catch.
“I got a solid 4-pounder at the end of the day,” said Martens, a two-time Elite winner, “but I figured something out. I think you will be impressed tomorrow, but I’m trying not to think too much about it.”
The Mississippi River Rumble will wrap up tomorrow afternoon as the Top 12 will weigh-in for the final time at 3:15 at the Veterans Freedom Park..
Here’s how the rest of the field ended up.
