The upcoming FLW Tour season should be excellent. The Tour kicks off on Lake Okeechobee in Florida, the home of big bass and beasty alligators.
More important than individual events is the chase for the Angler of the Year (AOY) title. The top point finisher, determined by overall points based on where the individual finished in the standings, wins the AOY title. It’s a very prestigious title and very difficult to achieve.
In 2015, veteran pro and winner of the Forrest Wood Cup, Scott Martin, won for the first time. Right behind him was John Cox and in third, Bryan Thrift.
In 2016, look for all three of them to be battling it out once again for the top spot in the FLW.
However, two anglers who were slightly off their game in 2015 were two-time FLW AOY Andy Morgan and perennial Top 10 AOY race finisher Cody Meyer.
Morgan finished 9th overall and Meyer 13th. Sure, not bad finishes. But for those two, that isn’t acceptable. Expect them to be pushing hard for the title.
The “dark horses” to keep your eyes on aren’t really dark horses, but often are not at the top of anybody’s list: Tracy Adams and Stetson Blaylock.
Adams finished 2015 in 8th in the AOY standings and Blaylock 15th. Adams seemed to always be on the cusp of killing it out there. Blaylock always seemed to have just one off day. If either of them get their stuff together in 2016, they may just take the AOY title.
