Ranger Boats pro Brett Hite is keeping the pressure on everybody else in the FLW Tour field fishing Lake Okeechobee. Hite’s two-day total of 58 pounds 7 pounds places him 12 pounds 9 ounces ahead of Halo pro and reigning Forrest Wood Cup champ Randall Tharp. Tharp brought in 22 pounds 1 ounce to give him 45 pounds 14 ounces. Sitting in third with 41 pounds 3 ounces is Skeeter Boats pro Matt Herren.

Rounding out the Top 5 are in fourth Ranger Boats pro Leon Williams weighing 41 pounds 2 ounces and in fifth Pop Tarts pro Greg Bohannan with 40 pounds 13 ounces.

Day 2 FLW Okeechobee leader Brett Hite (Joel Shangle)

Hite executed.

“Yesterday that 34 pound weight was the best I’ve ever had in a tournament,” said Hite. “I’ve weighed a couple of 29s before on the California Delta. Yesterday was one of those great days. I executed on the big fish. That is the big deal here and anywhere. You have to catch the big fish you hook.

“I had a fun day today, too. Just not as good as yesterday. When it’s your time it’s your time. Everything has to go right. I did not lose any fish. Knock on wood.”

Tharp lost big fish.

“I did lose some bigger fish today,” said Tharp. “If I would’ve landed those fish, I’d have weighed a limit like Brett (Hite) did yesterday. They’re still swimming around out there.

“I think tomorrow I can do it again. I’d like to weigh a larger limit than I did today. I lost three fish all around 6 pounds today. It is a four-day tournament. I think I can keep it up. Brett better catch them each day.”

Bohannan downsized today.

“I caught fish today,” said Bohannan. “I got them today. Just not the size I needed.”

Livingston Lures pro Stetson Blaylock is sitting in seventh with 38 pounds 13 ounces. Blaylock made adjustments to leap toward the top of the leaderboard.

“I had a rough practice,” said Blaylock. “Nothing was happening today. Around 10:30 this morning I scratched everything I was doing. I moved around and had a pretty good day.”
