Waunakee High School seniors Nate Lorenz and Colin Steck won the Regional High School Bass Federation Student Angler title last Saturday on a very dirty Ohio River in Indiana. Both anglers are members of the Waunakee High School Fishing Club.
Colin went to Indiana early and pre-fished for four days. Nate is a football player at Waunakee High School and played football on Friday night at Portage. He had arranged with coach Rice to be able to leave at halftime if the game was well in hand (41-0). By the way, Nate returned a punt for a TD in the first half.
Nate then drove all night and arrived in Indiana at 6:20am. Colin and Nate were fishing by 7:15am in the tournament.
They caught 4 fish for a total of 8+ lbs including a 5.6 lb largemouth and this was enough to grab the regional crown. This was their second consecutive regional title and have qualified for the National Tournament next spring where they will be competing against 11 other teams from around the country at a location yet to be announced.
