FOND DU LAC, Wis. (July 3, 2012) – Mercury pro angler David Dudley won his second-consecutive FLW Major Tour Angler of the Year title Sunday after taking the Lake Champlain event in Plattsburgh, N.Y., with an overall weight of 78 pounds, 8 ounces of bass – 1 pound and 10 ounces ahead of his closest competitor.
“It’s always nice to get a trophy,” Dudley said of winning the AOY title. “It’s something you own and nobody can take that from you.”
Dudley and his Mercury 250 OptiMax Pro XS outboard are no strangers to the pro angling winner’s circle. He recorded three top-five finishes, including victories on Lake Champlain and Beaver Lake in Rogers, Ark., and earned $306,530 during the six-event 2012 FLW Major Tour season.
Dudley has seven career wins on the tour, a Forrest Wood Cup championship, 36 top-ten finishes, and has been awarded the title of Angler of the Year three times in the past five seasons: 2008, 2011 and 2012. In addition, he’s banked over $3 million in his FLW career. He is the only angler in FLW history to win back-to-back AOY titles.
Dudley will try for his second Forrest Wood Cup championship August 9-12 on Lake Lanier in Duluth, Ga. It is the 14th time he’s qualified for the FLW Cup championship.
