The final hurrah of the seventh stop on the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series comes down to tomorrow. Over the last three days, we’ve seen three different leaders and a leaderboard that’s looked considerable different everyday.
Today, it was the young guns show. Brandon Palaniuk came in on Day Three with the tournament big bag of 21 pounds, 2 ounces, giving him a four ounce lead over Jonathon VanDam, nephew of Kevin VanDam.

Palaniuk did tell BassFIRST that he found another area very late in the day that he managed to cull up with a 4-pounder on his second cast on the spot. He felt pretty confident about the spot and said he’d certainly be putting time in on it tomorrow.
JVD brought in the second largest bag of the event moments before Brandon with his 20 pounds, 12 ounces and in solid position to make a run at the Green Bay Challenge title.
“I think my area will hold up,” VanDam said, “but I’d like the wind to blow a little more. It helps my bite, and I think it makes it tougher for the other anglers in the field to hold on their spots and fish them effectively.”
VanDam also noted that when he was fighting his largest fish, he noticed the fish had followers, many in the five-pound class.

Day One leader Aaron Martens fell from second to third after boating a solid 16 pounds, 1 ounce, on Day Three. Dean Rojas fell from first to fourth after his bite diminished, managing only 13 pounds, 8 ounces.
