Livingston Lures pro and Bassmaster Elite Series rookie, Jacob Powroznik, brought in a limit weighing 23 pounds 6 ounces to take over first place at the Elite Series event on Toledo Bend Reservoir out of Many, LA. Powroznik is heading into Saturday with a two-day total of 48 pounds 4 ounces. In second is Skeeter pro Dean Rojas with a two-day total of 44 pounds 13 ounces. Rojas had the big limit of the day weighing 24 pounds 15 ounces.
Rounding out the Top 5 are in third Plano pro Chad Morgenthaler weighing 43 pounds 12 ounces. Shimano pro Jared Lintner has a two-day weight of 42 pounds 4 ounces, which is good enough for fourth. In fifth is Trokar pro Skeet Reese with 41 pounds 5 ounces.
Powroznik changed up
“The shad spawn was the key for me yesterday,” said Powroznik. “This morning I only caught one fish off that. They got to schooling and didn’t bite. I just went fishing this afternoon.
“I found 30 fish or so on beds that looked decent. I should be able to get 16 pounds or so tomorrow, even without a big fish.”
Rojas on nothing
“Toledo Bend has treated me well,” said Rojas. “She was nice to me today. I’m just fishing. I’m not on anything. I’m not catching a lot of fish, but when I find them the quality is good. The wind settling down helped today. We are only halfway through this, but I like where I’m at right now.”
Morgenthaler’s pattern dangerous
“I’m having a good season,” said Morgenthaler. “This is my first year back on this tour. I’m concentrating to my maximum to stay focused fishing the Elites. It’s been working well, but I’ve missed a couple of 12 cuts. These great anglers keep pushing me.
“I’m on a dangerous pattern. Yesterday I catch three good fish in a row. Today I did it again with an 8-pounder. I hope it works again tomorrow. It’s becoming my favorite fishery.”
Lintner caught more
“What I was doing this morning didn’t work out,” said Lintner. “I said forget it. I changed what I was doing and went out and had a lot of fun. I caught a lot more fish than yesterday, but they were smaller.
“I caught a 5-pounder and thought I was really gonna jack ’em today. It didn’t work out. I might change again tomorrow.”
Reese ripped ’em
“I didn’t have a lot of company out there today,” said Reese. “I also didn’t catch a lot of fish, but I did catch a good one.
“I was looking at them today. I am not sure what I will do tomorrow. I hope I catch enough to fish Sunday.”
Reese’s good fish weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces.
