The Rayovac FLW Series is headed to Clear Lake October 15-17 for a tournament presented by Evinrude when as many as 300 pros and co-anglers will take to the water for the third and final regular-season stop of 2015 in the Western Division.
“The lake is in great shape right now,” said Walmart FLW Tour pro Kevin Stewart of Elk Grove, California, who enters this tournament ranked No. 24 in the 2015 Rayovac FLW Series Western Division. “The water levels are up at least two feet higher than when we fished here last year and the fish are almost in their fall patterns. There are going to be many different ways to catch fish and guys will be able to fish to their strengths.”
Stewart said that anglers choosing to fish shallow would likely catch fish throwing topwater baits, jigs and jerkbait. He predicted that as the bass continued their migration into their fall patterns that more anglers would be opting to fish deeper.
“Every fall there is a deep crankbait or deep jig bite,” Stewart said. “That’s how Aaron Britt won this tournament last year – deep cranking. Big crankbaits like (Strike King) 10XDs and (Norman Lures) DD22s will all come into play along with a jig bite. And there is always a good swimbait bite going.
“It’s Clear Lake, so the winner is going to need to weigh 20-plus-pound stringers for three days in a row,” Stewart went on to say. “The lake is extremely healthy right now and I think we’re going to see a great tournament. I predict that the final winning total will be between 73 and 74 pounds.”
Anglers will take off from the Konocti Vista Casino Resort & Marina located at 2755 Mission Rancheria Road, in Lakeport, California, at 7 a.m. PT each day. Weigh-in will be held at the Konocti Vista Casino Resort & Marina on all three days of competition, beginning at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public. The event is being hosted by the Konocti Vista Casino Resort & Marina.
Pros will fish for a top award of $40,000 plus a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers will cast for a top award consisting of a Ranger Z117 with 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and $5,000 if Ranger Cup guidelines are met.
The Rayovac FLW Series consists of five divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast, Texas and Western. Each division consists of three tournaments and competitors will be vying for valuable points in each division that could earn them the opportunity to fish in the Rayovac FLW Series Championship. The 2015 Rayovac FLW Series Championship is being held Oct. 29-31 on the Ohio River in Paducah, Kentucky.
