Pretty much everyone who follows competitive bass fishing knows the name Skeet Reese. The Berkley pro is Bassmaster Classic champion, former Bassmaster Angler of the Year and a holder of multiple wins at B.A.S.S.
Sure, the pro bass fishing credentials for Reese are impressive, but does he have what it takes to survive the onslaught that is Three Questions from BassFIRST? Perhaps. Read on and find out.
DL – What Summer Olympic sport would you like to compete in?
SR – Golf. I love to play golf, but I suck. I really suck at it. My short game, putting, is pretty good, but everything else is bad. I can get one good shot in and the rest, eh.
I have an awful lot of work to do before I’d be decent.
DL – What has been your biggest mistake as a pro so far?
SR – I’ve had plenty, but my biggest was the final weigh-in at the California Delta in 2010.
I came in all cocky thinking I had it won for sure. The only angler who had a chance was John Crews, but he thought he only had 17 pounds. Well, he weighed in right before me and weighed 20 pounds!
I was shell shocked. So, instead of using the weigh bag in the livewell with the fish, a wet bag, I grabbed a dry bag and put my fish in it. I lost the tournament by an ounce.
A wet bag can add an extra one or sometimes up to three ounces of weight. That mistake cost me at least a tie if not the win. I still think about it.
DL – Do you prefer steak or dessert?
SR – Steak hands down. I wanna kill a cow and eat. I’m not a dessert guy.
I was all about the ribeye in the past, but a great New York strip or a buttery filet. There are so many good cuts. You need to go to a good steakhouse where they dry age and prepare the meat properly. So good.
