Thrift Tapped Out
Bryan Thrift appears to be in good position at the FLW Tour event at Lake Okeechobee after Day 1. He is in the number 14 spot with 17-pounds and 5-ounces of bass; just one big fish behind the leader Casey Martin.
However, Thrift might have had his last hoorah.
“I didn’t catch many today, 7 or 8,” said Thrift. The five fish I weighed all came off beds. Those were all of the bed fish I had located. One was an 8-pounder. I got nothing left. I left the areas I had fish at 10:00 A.M. I had very little going. The whole day was based on that one big fish.
“If the fish were really up on the beds there’d be a lot of 25-pound weights today. They are not going yet. I’ll just have to go to different places and find some fish. I have very little going.”
Hibdon Big Bass Surprise
Former Bassmaster Classic and FLW Tour champ Dion Hibdon had a very pleasant surprise today, a 9-pound 10-ounce bass. That fish propelled him into the 7th spot with a limit weighing 20-pounds and 2-ounces.
“I saw the fish as I was peeking through the grass,” said Hibdon. It was ahead of me and I watched it for a bit. I thought it can’t be a bass because I haven’t caught one bigger than 2.5 pounds during practice. I caught a little one first, then the big one. Usually catching the little first messes up the big one, but not this time.”
