CANNELTON, Ind. (Aug. 17, 2011) – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Ohio River Aug. 27 for the fourth of five stops in the Hoosier Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
“The bite is always tough at Rocky Point,” said pro Shad Schenck of Waynetown, Ind. “Bites will be few and far between, so you have to try to put together the few bites you have to make yourself more efficient throughout the day.
“Whether you’re in the creek or on the main river, isolated woods are the key,” Schenck added. “You need to focus on woods and shade adjacent to deeper water. Also, smaller lures tend to get more bites at Rocky Point; there will be a topwater bite first thing in the morning and a flipping bite after that. You have to be really versatile and mentally prepared, but I think around nine pounds will win the tournament.”
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Rocky Point Marina located at Junction SR 66 & SR 166 in Cannelton. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
