With five Bassmaster Elite Series events done and the BASSfest on deck next week, Mark Zona took a little time and gave BassFIRST his mid-season review.
DL – During the first half of the season, what were the biggest surprises?
MZ – I think the Rick Clunn win is by far the biggest surprise, obviously. I think a lot of folks didn’t see him winning, especially on a traditional spawning event.
The other big surprise to me was the “return” of Kevin VanDam. Seriously, I’ve had people tell me that VanDam wouldn’t win again…really? What world are they in to make such an absurd claim?
DL – What predictions do you have for the rest of 2016?
MZ – Greg Hackney won’t be stopped for Angler of the Year (AOY). He’s leading the race in points now and with the way the rest of the season is lining up, it’s just too good for him.
Second prediction, The Chicago Bears make the playoffs. I ain’t kidding. The Bears have a nasty D!
Of course, when I think about Jay Cutler, I tend to shun him and put him out of my mind or else I’d change my prediction.
