Uncover the bass by fishing the docks
Even new docks that the homeowner is working on will house bass as soon as he is finished. Why? Because the bass will consider it their new home and will follow any baitfish under it. Then they will take over the dock and chase other fish away from it. Once he has positioned himself as king of the dock, he will allow smaller fish to join him as long as they don’t move too close to him. That is why you can catch many smaller fish under docks and then a big one comes to your net.
I’ve fished with many other partners throughout the years and most of them will cast once or twice to a dock and then leave. I like to cover every inch of that dock as there might be a Hawg under it and you have to hit him right on the nose to get him to bite.
Sometimes they just won’t bite but if you cover the whole dock they may strike just out of frustration. It’s their dock so they don’t want anything under it except food.
It’s best to fish docks from front to rear using a jig. Pitch to the front and then skip a jig way up under the rear of the dock. Then work your way out toward the front by hitting each post or pipe.
