Big Fall Crappies of Lake of the Woods

They aren’t everywhere in the lake, but when you find them, they are monsters!  I am talking about black crappies on the northern side of Lake of the Woods.  A number of fishing guides out of the NW Angle know where they live and as the fall brings cooler water temps, the crappies start putting on the feed bag.  A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to spend a great day in the boat with Grand Forks Herald outdoor writer Brad Dokken and the Northwest Angle’s Dan Schmidt.  This was a day never to forget!

The vast majority of the black crappies are caught among the 14,5542 islands of Lake of the Woods fishing out of the NW Angle.  For a complete list of NW Angle resorts who also can set you up with a good fishing guide, go to our Lake of the Woods Tourism website.
