#292 Kirt Hedquist helped to coordinate NPAA Members #232 Kolt Ringer, #621 Jeff Otis, #895 Jim Wedell, #632 Scott Ludwig provided seminars on Water Safety, Rigging, Casting and Invasive Species and NPAA #506 Mark Schutz with Full Throttle Fishing did a great job as MC. NPAA members kept the crowd’s attention and interest at a high level, and all the Lion’s Members provided the glue to keep it together, making it a tremendous and memorable event.
The Lake Minnetonka Lions Club Crappie Fishing was a successful fishing event without the fishing. Over $11,000 was grossed, 100 rod/reel packages plus other great prizes were handed out to the kids. They had to earn them by attending the four NPAA seminars. Parents loved it! A lot of great products was also given away through the dollar raffle, and the silent auction brought in almost $1200.
Numerous compliments were offered from parents on the seminar approach, not giving the kids prizes and poles until they learned about invasive species, water safety, knots, casting; it was great!! Approximately 100 kids came through and there were several hundred people that came through over the afternoon. If there had open water it could have had an attendance between 1000 and 2000 people on a beautiful day that graced us.
It is agreed, this event will continue to snowball in years to come. This will be a Lion’s event working with the community and the NPAA (special thanks to Patrick Neu).
