Crappie tournament is a huge success

The first crappie tournament held on Clear Lake was a resounding success. Taking place on Saturday in Clearlake Oaks, the event drew 50 teams. While the fishing was tough for many of the contestants there were some large crappie weighed in.
First place went to the team of Jim Malm and Joe Everett of Roseville with a 10-fish limit that weighed 21.42 pounds. They also caught the big fish of the tournament, a 2.68-pounder. Their winnings came to $1,500 ($1,000 as team winners and $500 for big fish). They said they caught most of their fish in one area on crappie jigs.
