When it comes to big crappie, most anglers think of Mississippi’s northern flood control lakes or Lake Washington. But this year the Ross Barnett Reservoir is producing giants, and lots of them.
“Oh my gosh, I’ve never seen anything like the Ross Barnett Reservoir right now,” said Hugh Krutz, B ‘n’ M Fishing pro-staff member and Brandon resident. “Like I told you a while back, I knew it was going to be good, but not this good.
“I can’t think of a time in the last month that my seven best didn’t weigh over 14 pounds. I’ve brought home 30 every time I’ve gone. If I take someone, we’ve taken 60 home every time. I don’t keep anything under 12 inches and I’ve thrown a lot of crappie back.”
