With ice fishing in full swing up at Lake of the Woods with over a foot of ice and the initial bite for walleyes and sauger rivaling that of panfish, it won’t be long when the typical form of transportation will be the Canadian manufactured Bombardier.  This “Ice Bus” was initially manufactured in Quebec to transport people in a frozen environment with a lot of snow.  It is now used by a variety of resorts at Lake of the Woods to transport guests to heated fish houses that line this walleye nirvana.

Joseph-Armand Bombardier always dreamed of a vehicle that could float over snow.  In 1937, he developed his first “snowmobile” or what we know as the Bombardier, in his small repair shop in Valcourt, Quebec.  Little did he know that over 75 years later, his invention would be a staple form of transportation across the icy landscape of The Walleye Capital of the World.

Border View Lodge (www.borderviewlodge.com) from Lake of the Woods will be displaying a working Bombardier at this year’s WI Ice Fishing Show in Rothschild, WI on December 13 – 15th.   Attendees will have the chance to examine one of these ice rigs first hand, up close and personal.

Along with Border View Lodge and other Lake of the Woods resorts will be resorts and tourism bureaus representing the top ice fishing destinations in the Midwest, a variety of top ice fishing companies, many with sport show pricing and seasoned ice anglers giving seminars that will allow you to put more fish on the ice and have a more enjoyable experience doing so.
