50+ Fish a day means your frying pan is full quickly!
Great ice fishing continues! Resort houses reporting 50+ fish a day and limits caught in half a day this week. Mornings and evenings between 7-10 am and after 2 pm bites still the best in 19-24 feet of water across the board. Best colors, blue/glow, red/white, red/glow, pink and gold. Work your favorite jigging spoon with a minnow head or tail in one hole and have a live minnow on a dead stick 6″ off bottom in the other. Electronics helpful in catching suspended walleyes. Evenings have been busy for tip-up northern fishing. 9-15 feet tipped with a sucker on a green or orange blade. Try 4 Mile Bay, Bostick creek and Zippel Bay for big pike.
Up to 11.5″ – 14″ of ice on the lake and 10 – 11″ of ice on Four Mile Bay is great for snowmobiles and ATV’s with hope of small vehicles let out by the coming weekend. Be sure to use marked trails and plowed roads, safety first!
On the Rainy River, anglers are finding the best luck in 17-21 feet of water. Gold and pink jigs working the best tipped with a minnow. Lots of tip-up action in adjacent bays. Thin ice on some areas of river up to 9 inches of ice in others. Work with resorts before venturing out. Snowmobile trails are marked.
Up at the NW Angle, 8- 15″ of ice allows for snowmobile and ATV traffic. Lake trails from the South Shore are being staked, but be aware of current areas and bare ice. Excellent reports with multiple limits. Work through a resort and use resort marked trails. Resort fish houses are out and very productive.

Bombardier at WI Ice Fishing
Show a Success
The Bombardier used by many resorts on Lake of the Woods was certainly a hit at the Ice Fishing show in Rothschild, WI this past weekend. In addition to the TV and Radio interviews Tom Gueurkink of Border View Lodge gave, many visitors of the show posed for pics.
Come up and see them in action. Bombardier quit making “Bombers” back in 1971, but they are still a staple up at Lake of the Woods.
