Learn 2 Fish With Us, Angler Educator and NPAA member Greg Karch #138 presented his Ice Fishing Basics seminar at the Wissota Ice Fishing Classic which was held in Chippewa Falls, WI on February 14th and 15th . NPAA member Tim Pizzi #891 also helped out during this event to make it a success. The Wissota Ice Fishing Classic is an Ice Fishing Tournament which has adult and youth divisions which is held by the local Lions club and Walleye League to raise money for local charitable organizations. The event started out on Friday evening at the local YMCA where Greg presented his Ice Fishing Basics seminar. Saturday morning the Ice Fishing Tournament kicked off and Greg presented his Ice Fishing Basics seminar twice. Greg’s Ice Fishing Basics seminar reviews; safety, locations, fishing equipment and how to use it, knots, fish identification and the AIS message of ‘Clean Drain Dry’.
Greg received this email from one of the Wissota Ice Fishing Classic organizers. ‘Greg, thanks to you, Karen, Tim and Kari for providing our community and members of the Lions Club and Walleye League with 3 great seminars. Words can’t describe how you moved both of our organizations. Our committee greatly appreciated all your efforts in presenting your ‘Ice Fishing Basics’ seminars and hope you would like to participate with us again. As you stated to me early on about your mission as an educator, attached is a picture representing your goal.
The young gentlemen in the picture attended the seminar on Friday evening at the YMCA. You showed him how to tie a knot and he came home with one of the fishing combos. On Saturday, he told his mother he wanted to ice fish at the tournament. His mother said he was so determined to participate that she could not tell him no. They arrived at the registration tent, explained he attended the Friday Basics seminar, and explained they knew nothing about ice fishing and hoped someone could assist. One of the members of the Walleye League took the young man and his mother to the ice and they began fishing. The smile tells the story. Mission Accomplished!’
The NPAA, HT Enterprises Inc. and Greg’s sponsors donated many fishing related items such as NPAA Future Angler shirts, ice fishing combo’s, augers, tackle and more were given to the kids. So future anglers received the education along with the fishing equipment. Together we are growing the great sport of fishing!!
