WI Women Fish just completed their Women’s Ice Fishing 101 weekend. The class sold out and 21 women signed up. The weekend included a half day of classroom lesson, lunch, and then the ladies hit the ice to test out their new skills. That evening there was a live music venue to help raise money for Fishing Has No Boundraries. Over $600 dollars was raised for that organization. The second day, the ladies went to Castle Rock Lake in WI to have a full day on the ice.
They fished for walleyes and were able to put to use all the skills they just learned. Many women caught their first fish through the ice over the weekend and now can’t wait to hit the ice again. The positive feed back on the event continues to come in.
With the help of generous sponsors, the class was offered for only $75. Often times, money is an issue that prevents women from getting on the ice. Each participant received a Frabill Sit and Fish Bucket loaded with items to help get them started. Other sponsors were Eskimo, Jiffy, Custom Jigs and Spins, The Minnow Bucket Bait shop, Gollon Bait, Boruds Hardware and Village Spirits. The class graduates are already planning their next Ice Outings.
WI Women Fish is a partner with the NPAA, and teaches women new fishing skills. The women in the club who were once fished with a bobber only are now trolling for walleyes on Green Bay. The club also offers support for those that would like to venture into tournament fishing. The club’s founder and President is Barb Carey, NPAA #219.
