Fish Ed. – First Ice Walleye

Since first ice typically follows a cold front, there are a number of important factors to consider with location and presentation. Try to find a place with less snow accumulation. This allows for greater light penetration below the ice so fish find your bait more easily. If the cold front muddied up the water, a lure with rattles can also help call in the fish. Vary the cadence of your bait’s movement until you find what the fish are biting and you’ll soon be catching one after another.
