Saturday, March 15th marked the 13th Annual Capital City Chapter of Muskies Inc.’s Muskie School at Waunakee High School in Waunakee, WI. Approximately 250 participants attended 33 different classes to kick off their 2014 season.
This school is advertised as an intermediate to advance school, but the organizers are motivated to include young anglers into this program. A “Basic Muskie Fishing” class is offered by NPAA member Duffy Kopf (#635) and the question of “Aquatic Hitchikers” is addressed in this class. Other hands-on classes and pool sessions attracted the younger anglers’ attention.
At the end of the school, all participants get together and the door prizes and raffles prizes are handed out. This part of the programs started off with Duffy calling the attending kids onto the big stage to get a free rod/reel combination donated by the NPAA along with a “goodie” bag.
Other NPAA members helping with this event were Steve Worrall and Jim Kloth. Any rods remaining at the end of the day will be given out in June at the Yahara Fishing Club’s Kids Fishing Day.
