Here’s a GIANT – 58 ½ INCHES!!!
About 5 PM on August 11, 2021 Muskies, Inc. member Klaus Trieb caught this giant while casting the Ontario portion of the St. Lawrence River with his good friend Larry Ramsell (a past president of MI) and their friend/guide Mike Lazarus. Klaus is a member of our Fox River Valley Chapter. You might recall that in 2018 he had our second longest muskie of the year (which was 2 inches shorter than this one).
In 2020 nobody was sure that Klaus would fish again. He was in the ICU with Covid and was in a medically induced coma for over 9 weeks. Klaus told us he is still trying to get back closer to full strength and said he could barely lift this giant. It was also a challenge to retrieve the Musky Mayhem Super Model with double 13 blades, but he did.
To gain Canadian entry Klaus had to show his Covid vaccination card and submit the results of a negative Covid test. After the touch and go condition he was in last year he said he was relieved to get vaxed even if he hadn’t been going to Canada. CONGRATS to Klause, Larry and Mike on the successful catch and release of this monster. Keep getting stronger Klaus . . . your next one might be bigger!
By the way, Larry is a muskie historian. He said, “This muskie had the longest head of any I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of giants. My previous largest was 13 ½ inches long and this one’s head measured 14 ½ inches.”
