There were four legal muskies registered at the WMT's North/South Twin Lakes tournament Monday, May 26th. The first muskie of the tournament would be measured at 6:33am by the team of Rory Tuff and Bill Ollman that scored 37 inches. At 7:47am, the team of Doug Grant and Dave Laska would tally the largest muskie of the day, a 37 1/2 incher that would hold up to give the duo the victory. The muskie fishing would continue to be slow until a front came through and the team of Randy Pearson and Bob Dekker would take advantage of the changing conditions at 1:02pm with a 36 1/4" muskie. Shortly after, Chas and Chris Martin would land a 35 1/2 inch muskie at 1:36pm to give the team a fourth place finish. Unfortunately for the tournament anglers, the changing weather would turn to the extreme as the air temps dropped 28 degrees in a half an hour, effectively shutting down the muskie activity for the remainder of the day.
The WMT's North/South Twin Lakes "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER" ™ tournament paid down five places:
1st – Doug Grant/Dave Laska
2nd – Rory Tuff/Bill Ollman
3rd – Randy Pearson/Bob Dekker
4th – Chas & Chris Martin
5th – George & Andy Kingsland
The next tournaments for the WMT is a "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER" ™ weekend with the Phillips Chain tournament on Saturday, May 31 and Butternut Lake tournament on Sunday, June 1. Because the Phillips Chain and Butternut Lake tournaments are a "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"(tm) weekend, the team who wins both of the tournaments back-to-back will win the $20,000.00 bonus, that would tally $40,000.00 for the weekend for the winning team with a full field. During the weekend, anglers will be looking also to capture a 50 inch muskie and take home the $17,000.00 fifty inch pool.
Both of the Phillips Chain and Butternut Lake tournaments still have some open spots. It is still possible to sign up for the events by logging on to the WMT's web site www.WMTseries.com for the entry form, and mailing it to the WMT. Also, you can sign up for the tournaments on Friday, May 30th at the Birch Island Resort, on the shores of Wilson Lake, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. And, you can sign up for the Butternut Lake tournament on Saturday, May 31st at Northern Pines Resort on Butternut Lake from 6:30pm to 7:00pm.
All of the WMT's one-day tournaments and Major Open Championships are open to the public. You can fish in one tournament or as many as you like.
