Big muskie caught on Niagara River in Buffalo, NY on 8/21/2011
My Brother and I were fishing on his boat. We planned long in advance for this fishing trip, and couldn't wait until the day arrived. At 4:30 a.m. that morning, we awoke to pouring, sheets of rain. Now, I don't know about you, but our times to get out on the water are hard to come by! We both are married to awesome Wives and have great Children, and they often require our presence, for soccer games, and watching the Kids, while they go shopping. Although, this time was different...WE HAD OUR CLEARANCE...AND WE WERE GOING FISHING!! We waited for about an hour till the rain subsided a bit, and we launched the boat, and we were going fishing. As the rains built up again, we sat threw torrential downpours, neither I nor my Brother, wanting to be cheated of our time out on the water. Although, I think it was more of our so-called "toughness" factor that neither of us wanted to show the other that the conditions were too much for us to handle. As the rains were pelting us so hard it actually stung our face and hands, we went up River till we thought that we had beat the rains, then I snagged my line on the bottom, and I just about spooled my line. As we watched the rains come back up the river to punish us once again and continuing their soaking us to the bone (and me with just about no line left) I said, "well I will just jig about 12 feet off the back of the boat", when my Brother mentioned that he had a older reel in the gunnel that had line on it. We joined the two lines, and just as we finished up re-spooling my reel, the rains actually started to taper off and finally stopped around 12 noon. Upon hearing our mornings hardships, our Wives said "you poor guys, fish for another hour"! We fished for another hour and were on our last drift, when we received the calls that we were needed at home now! My Brother yelled out, "we got about 10 min. left to this drift and this terrible day, if we're going do this, we better do it now"! Within the last 100 yards of the drift. MY 50.5 inch sexy lady, hit like a freight train! I fought her hard, and soon she was netted (Thanks again Bro !) and one the craziest and greatest fishing days of my and his life, was in the books!! Here's to persistence, and to two crazy Brothers that just couldn't loose our day of fishing! We had an equally great day, earlier that same season, when I got to net my Brother's 50 inch Musky, on the opening day of that very same year. Two 50's class "Skis" landed on the Niagara, to his boat, in one season (no to mention many others in the 30+,40+ Inch ranges) not too bad for being my 1st full year Musky fishing!
