Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend Attracts Future Anglers
Saturday, June 4th was Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend and the NPAA and Learn 2 Fish With Us hosted a Fishing Clinic for families at High Cliff State Park which is located in Sherwood, Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend allows families to fish without needing a fishing license.
NPAA Members, Greg Karch #138, Karen Karch #121, Tyler Nickel #343 and Ryan Burnett hosted the Fishing Clinic. The Fishing Clinic started out by Certified Angler Educator Greg Karch hosting his Fishing Basics seminar which educates youth and families on all the skills needed to fish. These skills include safety while fishing, different fishing combo’s, how to cast, different fishing presentations, how to tie a Clinch and Palomar knot, fish identification, parts of a fish, bait and the AIS message of ‘Clean Drain Dry’. Once the seminar was completed, families went to the Butterfly pond and fished. Learn 2 Fish With Us and High Cliff State Park had fishing equipment to loan to the families and The Reel Shot provided the bait for the event. The Butterfly pond was recently stocked with fish in spring which allowed many of the youth to catch bluegills and bullheads. Six of the youth caught their first fish. After fishing, each youth received a NPAA Future Pro shirt and were they excited!!! Each youth also received a door prize which consisted of Shakespeare fishing combos, Plano tackle boxes, Triton Boats hats and more!
