Salmon Season Arrives Here’s What to Expect

Shadowed by doubts about wind, sea conditions and small-craft warnings, salmon season is set to open Saturday. There are no doubts, however, about the amount of feed and the numbers of salmon.
A color-coded satellite image taken this week shows high levels of chlorophyll from phytoplankton, the foundation of the marine food chain, in the ocean off the San Mateo County coast. That’s likely to result in large areas of krill and other food sources of salmon. The catch limit is two for the opener with a 24-inch minimum size limit.
