Akaska SD to host 1st annual Kids Fishing for Freedom Event
The South Dakota Walleye Classic fishing tournament has filed for a nonprofit 501 c 3. The purpose of the new nonprofit organization is to fund the costs to take young sons and daughters of the deployed South Dakota National Guard men and women fishing on the Missouri River.

“This is our chance to send a small thanks to our troops. A lot of these kids can’t go fishing because one or both of their parents are deployed” according to Bill Waeckerle President of the SD Walleye Classic and founder of Kids Fishing for Freedom.

The JJ Keller Foundation awards $5,000 to the host City of an Anglers Insight Marketing (AIM) Tournament. September 15-17th Akaska will host its third AIM event so it has $15,000 to offset the expenses of taking the potential of upwards of 50 kids and one parent on the water for a day.
The event will take place on Sunday, September 18th from 8:30 A.M. – 2:30 P.M. This will follow the AIM International Championships so a few of the Pro Anglers will be on hand to help out as well.

“$15,000 goes a long way but we are looking for additional support from local businesses and individuals for prizes for kids along with meals and lodging costs for the families” said Waeckerle. Waeckerle went on to say “We want this to be an annual event that South Dakota and the Town of and City of Mobridge area can be proud of and it will cost additional money to continue from year to year”
