May 16th, 2014 Ortonville, MN-Big Stone Lake marked the fifth stop of the 2014 season for the Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC). During the event, the National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) members and MWC Anglers held a successful Future Angler Event following the first weigh-in at Riverside Park.
After 133 walleyes crossed the scales, 25 future anglers listened, learned, practiced and showed off their fishing skills. The young anglers learned about safety and aquatic nuisance species while wearing their future anglers t-shirts and holding their rod/reel combos, donated as a courtesy of the NPAA.
Following the lessons, kids impressed their parents and MWC anglers by casting into a field of backyard bass, which are plastic casting targets shaped like fish, and were hauling them in like professional anglers! The kid’s casted and caught bass for nearly an hour until the repetitive motion exhausted their shoulder joints!
NPAA members that helped out with the event were Spencer Deutz #552, Darrell Peters #263 and Curt Oliver #856.
