Ponca City, Okla.-January 11, 2013-Registration opens Monday, January 14th for the 2013 Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit. Two-person teams can sign up online at masterswalleyecircuit.com for their chance to enjoy great walleye fishing and compete for hefty payouts at 10 qualifiers scheduled for premier fisheries across the heart of the Walleye Belt.

Since 1984, the circuit has set the standard for team walleye tournaments, and the tradition continues this season with a stellar eight-state lineup of top destinations including the Detroit, Illinois and St. Mary’s rivers, along with lakes Erie, Michigan, Winnebago, Cass, Devils, Oahe and Pueblo. Anglers compete for great paybacks and sponsor contingencies such as Cabela’s Angler Cash at each event. Plus, teams competing in at least three MWC tournaments have a shot at qualifying for the no-entry-fee, $100,000 Cabela’s MWC World Walleye Championship, set for October 2014 at Devils Lake, North Dakota.

With the circuit’s recent sale to The Walleye Federation, MWC anglers will enjoy a variety of additional benefits, including an annual TWF membership that expands opportunities beyond the MWC to other events including the Cabela’s National Team Championship. The MWC also updated its rules, including the creation of a simplified points system for qualifying for both the Cabela’s MWC World Championship and MWC Team of the Year race. Teams are encouraged to review all of the new rules carefully at masterswalleyecircuit.com.

Prize packages have also been enhanced. For example, in addition to the great payout and contingencies, tournament winners will also receive a paid invitation to fish the 2014 Cabela’s NTC, including team jersey, plaque and travel stipend. Teams competing in the circuit’s Team of the Year race, which requires fishing a minimum of four events, are also in line for bigger winnings, including their choice of “Living the Dream” packages for fishing either the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour or Masters Walleye Circuit. Packages include paid entry fees, travel stipend, team jerseys and use of a 600 series Ranger boat for the 2014 tournament season.

The MWC will also deliver expanded television coverage, elevating circuit anglers’ exposure to new heights. Exact air dates and times will be announced as soon as the production schedule is set, and select MWC events will air as part of a 13-week block of Federation Angler TV in the fourth quarter of 2013 on NBC Sports, which airs in over 80 million households. NBC Sports will also air coverage of Cabela’s National Walleye Tour events, so walleye anglers everywhere can tune in and follow unprecedented coverage of the best walleye action in their favorite sport. The MWC is also unveiling an exciting artificial-only format for teams fishing the Devils Lake, North Dakota, qualifier. In partnership with longtime MWC sponsor Berkley Gulp!, the tournament will feature an increased payout, plus great product sample packages to all teams battling for walleye gold on one of the West’s best fisheries. Walleye fans are also encouraged to watch for the upcoming announcement of a special “MWC Open” tournament. Planned for one of the Circuit’s most storied destinations, the event will introduce budding tournament teams to the thrills of high-stakes competition.

Based in Ponca City, Oklahoma, the Cabela’s MWC is open to two person teams regardless of club or sponsor affiliation. Entry fees will remain $650 per tournament, of which more than 100 percent is returned to anglers at the qualifiers, World Championship and Team of the Year races. Registration remains open through the Sunday night prior to each tournament. However, teams that sign up before the February 15 earlybird deadline enjoy additional perks, including installment billing and improved odds of qualifying for the World Championship.
