February 15, 2011-MINNETONKA, MN-Tapping its 27 years of experience on the tournament scene-and the insight of more than 1,000 hard-core walleye anglers within its ranks-the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit continues its aggressive drive to improve the MWC.
Toward that end, the MWC is making continued refinements in the process for earning a coveted berth in the prestigious $100,000 Cabela’s World Walleye Championship.
Highlights of the revised system include:
1. Top 45 teams go to Championship regardless of Division.
2. Teams qualify by their best three finishes, which do not need to be within one Division.
3. Scoring is based on place-based performance system, using the former MWC Challenge formula. Teams earn points based on where they place as a percentage of the field, rewarding teams that do well against larger fields, while not penalizing those in smaller fields.
4. As a failsafe to guard against catastrophically poor fishing conditions destroying a Division’s chances of making the Championship, each Division is guaranteed a minimum number of berths, based on how many teams fish three events in that Division. If a Division does not meet its minimum, the number of berths needed to meet the minimum are added to the 45.
