Another tip from JP Bushey

Clear Water Lure Colour & Trolling Patterns Condensed:

I think fish in clear water, walleye especially, get misunderstood in late summer. My experience is that these fish are highly mobile, used to hunting over greater distances (vertically as well as horizontally) and usually way more aggressive than we realize. In bright sun, force walleye into moving for your baits. Bump up the speeds, run them higher in the water and kick up the visual ruckus your baits make with the flash of metallic finishes or the brightness of fluorescents. OR12 boards let you work over clear water fish at a distance from the boat, and this adds a lot of punch to any ‘high in the water’ or suspended bite. These new Reef Runner Skinny Sticks have proven excellent this summer, handling plenty of speed and hooking fish solidly. Eriedescent was the star back in July, but Green Flash has been hot lately, set behind the boards to run only 11-14′ down over water as deep as sixty feet. Here’s my son Britt with one almost as long as him from the weekend. If walleye are up off bottom in clear water where you fish and won’t respond to being spoon-fed or babied, throw ’em a high fastball with a high board spread and hotter coloured baits. Some days they’ll jump all over them! Big smallmouth and pike will, too.
