On August 12th 2015, Jim Wedell, NPAA # 895, hosted a fishing seminar at the Rockford Community Education for grades 2-6.
The event covered skills and information in the morning and actual fishing on a pontoon in the afternoon.
The morning helped children understand safety, Clean Drain and Dry, where to fish, how to fish, kinds of rods and reels, simple contour map reading, fish ID, types of clothing to wear, catch & release, types of bobbers, types of bait, etc.
All kids went to the gym and practiced casting at plastic fish and then learned how to tie a fishing knot.
After lunch, everyone went out on the pontoon and caught fish. It was a warm day with kids catching and releasing at least 15 pan fish per person.
FKFK would like to thank NPAA for the Shakespeare rod and reel combos, camouflage water bottles, DNR posters, etc. They really surprised and interested the kids.
