DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (July 21, 2010) – The FLW Walleye Tour Western Division will visit Devils Lake in Devils Lake, N.D., July 29-31 for the final stop in the Western circuit. Hosted by the Devils Lake Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the tournament will feature as many as 300 top walleye anglers casting for top awards up to $35,000 in the Pro Division and $7,500 in the Co-angler Division.
“Bring everything you’ve got,” said Brian Brosdahl of Max, Minn., who had a top-10 finish at Lake Oahe last month. “Devils Lake is a unique fishery in that any style of fishing will work, there are so many different ways to catch fish up there you should just bring everything and be prepared to make adjustments. It’s all about being able to make good decisions.”
Brian Bjorkman of Fargo, N.D. agrees. He’s not sure how he is going to fish but is planning to bring his entire tackle box.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of live bait rigging, trolling spinners and bobbers, and casting crankbaits, it’s just a matter of being able to find a good spot that has that big kicker fish and being consistent. It is probably going to take 17-18 pounds per day to make the final cut so you really have to shoot for the homerun spot with a big fish,” said Bjorkman.
Anglers will take off from Woodland Resort located at 1012 Woodland Drive in Devils Lake at 7 each morning. Weigh-ins will also be held at Woodland Resort beginning at 3 p.m. On Saturday there will be a family fishing clinic from 2:30 – 4 p.m. at the marina prior to the final weigh-in.
In FLW Walleye Tour competition, anglers are also vying for valuable points in hopes of qualifying for the 2010 FLW Walleye Tour Championship held on Leech Lake in Walker, Minn., Sept. 23-25.
