NPAA Members Kyle Agre #664, Scotty Brewer #665 and volunteers from club partner FM Walleyes Unlimited conducted youth fishing activities at the Lil’ Fisherman’s Derby on the Red River of the North in Fargo, North Dakota on Monday, June 4th from 5 to 7 p.m..
The event was a collaborative effort of the Fargo Park District, River Keepers, FM Walleyes Unlimited and Scheels. Participants took part in eight learning stations during the fishing clinic where participants learned about river safety, “what’s in your tackle box?”, fish identification, live bait, knot tying, netting/landing fish, fish handling and casting .
NPAA members and club volunteers assisted the youngsters in becoming familiar with the basics of fishing in a hands-on setting.
Following the clinic the young anglers participated in a fishing derby on the Red River of the North with NPAA and FM Walleyes Unlimited volunteers assisting. Awards were given out for the largest of several fish species as well as to the young angler who caught the most fish. A total of 119 young anglers and 84 adults participated in the event.
Thank you to the following: NPAA, Scheels, FM Walleyes Unlimited, Fargo Park District and River Keepers for their contributions to this event.
