Future Anglers Learn to Fish Green Bay Style

On Saturday July 18th, the NPAA hosted a Future Angler Clinic following the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour event at the Green Bay Metro Park, In Green Bay, Wi. The event was leads Rick Zachowski  and Eric Olson coordinated the event.  The 75 youth in attendance learned about the fishing techniques that were used on the bay to catch the monster walleyes that had been brought to the National Walleye Tour stage earlier in the day.  Eric Olson also shared the importance of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) prevention by utilizing the  clean, drain and dry protocol after each use of a boat in waters that contain AIS.

The young attendees were also treated to a visit from the U.S. Forest Service’s Smokey the Bear.  Smokey is 75 years old this year and he wandered through the crowd at the event handing out literature and the “Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires” message.

Each young angler in attendance received a rod and reel combo, t-shirt, and water bottle. The prizes were handed out by NPAA members: Rick Zachowski #231, Robert Cardenas #103, Brad Davis #7, Scott St. Sauver #769, Bill Sutton #619 Craig Huss #262, Chris Burns #966 and Glen Viton #280. Special thanks to Randy Ritchie and Walleyes for Tomorrow for the donation of the 75 rods and reels for the youth. Thanks go to the National Walleye Tour for their help and use of their stage.
