How to Find Walleye on a New Lake | Full Guide

Classic midsummer patterns are locked in right now where we are finding a lot of walleye on offshore structure. This time of year, we spend a lot of time looking at contour maps trying to get a better understanding of locations and also spend a lot of time trying to find new spots.

On the reservoirs like Lake Sakakawea, we have been doing well on structure or large flats that are adjacent to the old river channel. On Devils Lake, we are finding a lot of fish over deep rocks or submerged road beds. This video shows a few tricks for using your depth palette to identify structure.

In todays world however where most people have a map chip and a GPS, some of my favorite locations for finding fish are simply deepe flats that have scattered rock. These rock fields offer transitions and cover but don’t jump out on a contour map. Use your side imaging to find these spots and you will often have them to yourself for a long time.
