Josh Olson, NPAA #682, uses Doctor Sonar Map Cards to win South Dakota Walleye Classic
I’ve been using the Doctor Sonar Map cards for both North and South Lake Oahe, in South Dakota, for two years now, and I continue to be impressed with the things I find and the many features they have that other maps and map cards do not. This year the cards were incredibly useful in helping me discover a hot walleye bite on the north portion of Lake Oahe. With the South Dakota Walleye Classic tournament happening out of Akaska, SD and the boundaries being only to the mid part of Oahe, I thought maybe the walleye pattern I had figured out in North Oahe could translate to the mid part of the system. I would have to find similar areas like it on the Oahe map card. After searching through the Doctor Sonar map cards, I found similar areas and marked them as a “to-be-fished” area. After fishing a few of the spots I had marked, I found that the walleye pattern I had found in North Oahe worked in all portions of the Oahe river system.
Doctor Sonar Map Cards are different from traditional maps and map cards because of the detailed contours they show and the unique color systems they provide. On traditional maps, the underwater details aren’t good or clear enough to find big fish spots, like flats, divots, and underwater humps, especially when the water is high like it has been the past two years. On the Doctor Sonar map cards, every little contour, including divots, humps, flats, trees, and structure, is perfectly laid out for you. Also, the unique color system that the map cards have make it much easier to steer your boat and keep it in the perfect depths once you find quality fish, always keeping you in the strike zone. These features proved to be very valuable during the South Dakota Walleye Classic. It was beneficial to us to be able to actually see what was down there before the water levels came up. There was very little guess work on what was below the water levels. Lastly, these map cards have given me confidence in driving my boat
on the always changing river system because I am able to stay in the channel and can see where there may be potential problems. I can say the Doctor Sonar map cards were a major contributor to finding the right areas to fish. I wouldn’t be caught on Lake Oahe without them.
