This past Friday, Certified Angler Educator Greg Karch and NPAA Member #138, hosted a fishing seminar to introduce Woodland Elementary third graders to the Fishing Basics. Woodland Elementary Is located in Kimberly, Wisconsin. The fishing seminar started out by Greg asking the kids what was in the box? The thirds graders answered with “fishing tackle”, “storage box” and one youth said a “fish”? One youth was right, as Greg pulled out a thirty-three inch mounted walleye. Greg caught this walleye two years back and it went thirteen pounds. You should of seen all the excited kids!!! Greg said, “the skills you will learn today will help catch fish, and if you keep practicing, will allow you to catch a fish like this”.
Next, Greg, kicked off the fishing clinic with his Fishing Basics seminar which educates attendee’s on all the skills needed to fish such as: safety while fishing, fishing combos, casting, fishing presentations, knots, bait fish identification, the environment and the Clean Drain Dry message. Thanks to the NPAA and Learn To Fish With Us each youth went home with a fishing related item such as a fishing combo, water bottle, hats and more.
Greg’s, Learn 2 Fish With Us and NPAA mission, is to grow the sport of fishing by educating and inspiring future anglers. Greg said “It is important for us to take the time to educate the public on fishing and the environment so the sport of fishing will live one for future generations!!!”.
