Madison Fishing Expo Teams Up With Learn 2 Fish With Us To Present Fishing Basics

Learn 2 Fish With Us, Angler Educator and NPAA member Greg Karch #138  presented his Fishing Basics seminar at the Madison Fishing Expo in Madison, Wisconsin on February 22nd and 23rd.  NPAA member Tim Euting #789 helped present and worked with youth during the Fishing Basics seminar.  Greg’s Fishing Basic seminar reviews: safety, open and closed spinning combo’s, casting, fishing presentations, bait, knots, parts of a fish, fish identification, ‘Clean Drain Dry’ and conservation.  All this skills will help the family have a great experience fishing while spending time together.    Greg received many comments from the parents, that they learned a tip or two!!

Greg  also participated on a panel discussion that reviewed ‘Angling and AIS, What’s the big Deal?’  The panel also included NPAA member Terry Frey #132, Wisconsin DNR officials and a Wisconsin DNR warden.  Greg and Terry reviewed how Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) has affected the water they fish.  Greg, stated that ‘ zebra mussels and weeds have affected the Lake Winnebago System, and that zebra mussels, water flies and gobies affected his fishing in the Bay Of Green Bay’.  Greg explained that he liked the simple statement of ‘Clean Drain Dry’!!  Clean the weeds off the boat, trailer and motor, drain your live-well, pull your boats drain plug, and finally dry your boat for seven days if you are going to a different body of water so that all aquatic invasive species perish.   Greg follows these steps every time he fishes or is boating, as he wants to prevent the transfer of aquatic invasive species so the future anglers he is educating will have a place to fish and boat.
