In December 2009, the fishing industry lost a long-time competitor and a key person in the creation of the AIM Pro Walleye Series™. Dave Anderson was an important member of the AIM Board of Directors. His perspective and steady optimism will not be forgotten.
David and Lois Anderson purchased Bay and Bay Transfer in 1988. Over the years the company grew and a new terminal was constructed in Rosemount, MN. In 2004 Dave was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2005, Dave became the CEO and Chairman of the company after naming his son, Sam as his successor as President.
In Dave’s memory, AIM has established the David Anderson Sportsman of the Year Award. This award honors the AIM Pro Angler who has done the most to promote the sport of fishing and has portrayed the best example of professionalism in competitive fishing. Voting for the award was open to all the AIM Pro Anglers and Co-anglers from across the 2010 season.
For 2010 the Dave Anderson Sportsman of the Year Award was earned by Marianne Huskey. Marianne was a strong competitor in all five of the 2010 AIM tournaments. She missed the Day Three cut by mere ounces on two occasions. She always displayed a positive attitude and is well-respected by her fellow competitors. Marianne was also continually complimented by her Co-angler partners on her attention to detail and her emphasis on being an effective teacher of presentations. Marianne also took responsibility for organizing the Kid’s Events at each of the AIM tournaments, which introduced literally hundreds of children to both the fun of fishing and the AIM Pro Anglers.
“Receiving this award in honor of Dave Anderson is truly amazing” stated Marianne “I would like to thank my son Gunnar, Barry and Kristine (mom and dad), Matt Pikka, my family, my sponsors, and all of my peers for their continued support! So many of you have encouraged me along the way.
I look forward to working with our youth in the future and encouraging them to find their inner passion for fishing!! Thank you again and Fish On!!”
The 2010 Dave Anderson Sportsman of the Year Award includes a special plaque that will be presented to Marianne by Sam and Lois Anderson at the annual meeting of the National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) in January. Marianne will carry the title throughout the 2011 season. In addition, she will also receive one free entry in a 2011 AIM Pro Walleye Series™ tournament.
