The Merc National field of 302 boats headed out under cloudy and cool conditions this morning from Lakeside Park on Winnebago. East winds and light rain are forecast for the morning, with clearing skies mid-day and a few scattered showers for the end of tournament hours. general consensus for the anglers this morning was positive, as the front about to move through tonight may get the bite going better than yesterday.
The 25 pound lead weight is not a lock by any means, as that weight came from 5 bites for 5 fish. It’s still a wide open tournament. Trolling live bait harnesses and cranks over the mud is the leading technique.
The weigh in will begin at 2 PM, but there will be many who weigh in early due to the ‘no cull’ rule on Winnebago. Teams keep 6 and can weigh in 5, so if 5 over 20″ hit the well, it’s likely they will weigh in early to keep the live release bonus of an ounce per fish.
